Target Information

Progesterone (P4), a steroid hormone produced exclusively by avian follicular granulosa cells, is crucial for follicle development and ovulation. The poultry ovary is particularly susceptible to infections from E. coli and Salmonella, with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) being a key factor in these infections. LPS interferes with cellular functions by invading the ovaries via the cloaca, disrupting P4 secretion by follicular granulosa cells (GCs), which significantly impacts the health of breeding geese.
