Canine yorkie homolog, also known as YAP (Yes-Associated Protein), is a transcriptional regulator that acts as a key downstream effector in the Hippo signaling pathway. This pathway plays a pivotal role in controlling organ size, cell proliferation, and apoptosis. YAP contains a TEAD-binding domain and two WW domains, allowing it to interact with various transcription factors and regulatory proteins. When the Hippo pathway is activated, YAP is phosphorylated, leading to its cytoplasmic retention and degradation, thereby suppressing target gene expression.
