Target Information
Prolyl Hydroxylase, also known as procollagen-proline dioxygenase, belongs to the group of enzymes called alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent hydroxylases. These enzymes facilitate the incorporation of oxygen into organic compounds through a process that involves alpha-Ketoglutaric acid, Fe2+, and ascorbate. The oxygen-dependent hydroxylation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-α subunits by prolyl hydroxylase domain (PHD) proteins serves as a signal for their polyubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation. This process plays a crucial role in regulating HIF abundance and maintaining oxygen homeostasis.
