Target Information

As one of the most ancient immunoglobulins, IgM is found in fish and shares functional similarities with its mammalian counterpart. Fish IgM neutralizes viruses and agglutinates bacteria, effectively targeting these pathogens. Additionally, it triggers the classical complement pathway upon encountering a pathogen. IgM plays a key role in mucosal immunity in fish. Studies have shown that IgM is expressed at higher concentrations on mucosal surfaces, especially after infection with pathogens, and its expression level increases significantly. For example, in carp infected with bacterial diseases (e.g., Aeromonas hydrophila), the titer of IgM was significantly elevated and closely correlated with disease recovery.
