Adenosine monophosphate (AMP) is a fundamental component of RNA and serves as the organic element of the energy-transferring molecule ATP. In essential metabolic reactions, AMP joins with inorganic phosphate to produce ADP (adenosine diphosphate) and subsequently ATP. The enzyme encoded by the AMPD1 gene is crucial for catalyzing the conversion of AMP into IMP.
