12-Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE) is a derivative of the 20 carbon polyunsaturated fatty acid, arachidonic acid. 12-HETE acts locally as an autocrine or paracrine signaling agent. It can regulate cellular responses and tissue behavior. Its involvement has been suggested in various physiological and pathological reactions. 12-HETE is associated with inflammation. Previous in vitro study showed that cultured feline tracheal epithelial cells produced 12-LOX metabolite 12-HETE and 15-LOX metabolite 15-HETE.
