Target Information
Polyamine oxidase is encoded by the PAOX gene in horses. This flavoprotein enzyme facilitates the oxidation of a carbon-nitrogen bond within the secondary amino group of a polyamine donor, utilizing molecular oxygen as the electron acceptor. The typical polyamine oxidase (PAO) reaction transforms three substrates-water, oxygen, and a polyamine possessing both primary and secondary amino groups-into three products: hydrogen peroxide, an amino-aldehyde, and a primary amine.
