Specifications
Target Information
Propeptides at the N-terminal end (PIINP) play a crucial role in the synthesis of Type II collagen, which is the most abundant protein in cartilage matrix. Equine procollagen II N-terminal propeptide (PIINP) is also known as procollagen II amino-terminal propeptide. During the formation of type II collagen, the N-terminal and C-terminal propeptides, PIINP and PIICP, respectively, are cleaved by matrix metalloproteinases. The propeptides of collagen type II have been shown to be good biomarkers of cartilage formation ex vitro.
