Target Information
Equine Indoxyl Sulfate is a protein-bound metabolite produced by the liver from indole, which is generated by the microbial fermentation of dietary tryptophan in the horse's large intestine. As a potent endogenous ligand for the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor (AhR), IS promotes oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory signaling in equine vascular and renal tissues. It is a critical target for researching the progression of equine chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the systemic inflammatory effects of dysbiosis in high-performance or geriatric horses.
