Target Information

Diphtheria is caused by toxigenic strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae, specifically the biotypes mitis, gravis, intermedius, or belfanti. Corynebacteria from the diphtheriae species complex (CdSC) are known to cause diphtheria in humans and have also been identified in companion animals.
