Target Information

Chlorothalonil is a widely used, non-systemic, broad-spectrum organochlorine fungicide primarily applied to agricultural crops, pastures, and animal feed crops to control fungal diseases. It impacts animal-derived food safety through environmental and feed pathways: livestock can ingest chlorothalonil residues via treated forage, silage, or contaminated drinking water, leading to potential metabolic carryover and residue accumulation in meat, organs, and milk. It poses a significant food safety concern because it is classified as a probable human carcinogen, possesses kidney and liver toxicity, and can cause severe skin and eye irritation. Consequently, strict Maximum Residue Limits are enforced globally for animal products to protect consumers from chronic dietary exposure.
