Gastricsin, also known as progastricsin, pepsinogen C, or pepsinogen II, is an aspartic proteinase that belongs to the peptidase family A1. It is produced in the stomach and constitutes a major component of the gastric mucosa. Progastricsin is encoded by the chicken PGC gene. It is a major seminal plasma protein with aspartyl proteinase-like activity and close sequence similarity to pepsins.
