Target Information

In chickens, periostin (also known as POSTN) is a protein encoded by the POSTN gene. It functions as a ligand for alpha-V/beta-3 and alpha-V/beta-5 integrins, aiding in the adhesion and migration of epithelial cells. Research indicates that periostin is induced by shear stress and may serve as a vital molecular component for heart structures that experience mechanical stress or tension during the cardiac cycle. Although there is no direct evidence for a specific function of periostin in chickens, based on its role in other species, it can be hypothesized that it may play an important role in bone development, wound healing, inflammatory responses, and tissue remodeling in chickens.
