Target Information

In chickens, mannan-binding lectin serine peptidase 2 is encoded by the MASP2 gene. MASP-2 plays a role in the complement system and closely resembles the C1s molecule of the classical complement pathway, suggesting they share a common evolutionary ancestor. MASP2 is an important component of the complement system, which is involved in complement activation together with MASP1. Chickens are deficient in MASP1 and therefore rely exclusively on MASP2 to activate the complement system. MASP2 participates in multiple biological processes with other proteins and may play an important role in chicken development, metabolism, and disease defense.
