Target Information
Androstenedione (ASD) is an endogenous weak androgen steroid hormone and intermediate in the biosynthesis of estrone and of testosterone from dehydroepiandrosterone. ASD serves as a precursor for other important hormones in the body, including testosterone and estrogens like estrone. The ability of theca cells from the largest chicken preovulatory follicle to produce androstenedione from all substrates except dehydroepiandrosterone decreases abruptly in the 24 hours before ovulation.
