Target Information
Cefquinome is a fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic developed exclusively for veterinary medicine. It is widely used to treat severe bacterial infections in livestock, such as bovine respiratory disease, acute mastitis in dairy cows, and MMA syndrome (mastitis-metritis-agalactia) in sows. Because of its high efficacy against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, it is a critical focus of food safety monitoring. Residues in milk and edible tissues (meat, liver, kidney) are strictly regulated because Cefquinome belongs to a class of antibiotics that are vital for human health; overexposure through food could accelerate the development of multi-drug resistant "superbugs."
