Target Information
Homovanillic acid (HVA) is a major catecholamine metabolite formed by the sequential action of monoamine oxidase and catechol-O-methyltransferase on dopamine. HVA is used as a reagent to detect oxidative enzymes. It is associated with dopamine levels in the brain. Research showed that prolonged exercise by sled dogs did not affect urine homovanillic acid concentration but did increase urinary cortisol secretion.
