Target Information

Gastrin is encoded by the GAST gene in dogs. It is synthesized and secreted primarily by gastrin (G) cells located in the mucosa of the antrum. Gastrin binds to cholecystokinin B receptors to stimulate the release of histamines in enterochromaffin-like cells. It induces the insertion of K+/H+ ATPase pumps into the apical membrane of parietal cells, increasing H+ release into the stomach cavity. Research has shown that gastrin plays a role in the etiology of chronic antral gastritis associated with chronic lymphocytic plasmacytic enteritis in dogs.
