Target Information
Voltage-dependent anion-selective channel protein 1 is encoded by the VDAC1 gene in bovine. It facilitates the entry of essential molecules like pyruvate and ADP into the mitochondria for energy production. It also allows the exchange of various metabolites between the mitochondria and the cytoplasm. Relative to the mRNA for VDAC3, the mRNAs for both VDAC1 and VDAC2 were more highly expressed in bovine brain than in rat brain.
