Target Information
Bovine SDMA is a stable metabolic byproduct formed by the methylation of arginine residues within cellular proteins. In ruminant health, it serves as a precise, early-stage biomarker for renal impairment. Unlike creatinine, serum SDMA concentrations in cattle are not skewed by significant fluctuations in muscle mass, body condition, or the high-protein intake common in dairy and beef production. It provides a more sensitive measurement of the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), enabling the detection of kidney dysfunction before significant clinical damage occurs.
