Specifications
Target Information
The sodium-dependent organic anion transporter is a protein that specifically transports 3'- and 17'-monosulphated steroid hormones, such as estrone sulphate and dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate, to specific target cells. These biologically inactive sulfo-conjugated steroids are present in high concentrations in the circulation and serve as precursors for the intracrine formation of active estrogens and androgens. These active hormones contribute to the overall regulation of steroids in various peripheral tissues.
