Target Information
Bovine phosphatidylserine decarboxylase proenzyme is encoded by the PISD gene in cattle. It catalyses the formation of phosphatidylethanolamine (PtdEtn) from phosphatidylserine (PtdSer). It plays a central role in phospholipid metabolism and in the interorganelle transport of phosphatidylserine. It may be involved in the biogenesis of lipid droplets at the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Research has shown that SNPs in PISD affect economic traits such as meat production or meat quality in native Japanese cattle.
