Target Information
Bovine 6-Phosphofructokinase, Muscle Type is encoded by the PFKM gene in cattle. It functions as a subunit of the mammalian tetramer phosphofructokinase, which catalyzes the phosphorylation of fructose-6-phosphate to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate. The tetramer composition varies depending on the tissue type, and PFKM encodes the muscle-type isozyme. It is a selective sweep-influenced gene in Yakutian cattle which is associated with disease resistance.
