Target Information
Bovine Propionyl-CoA Carboxylase Beta Chain, Mitochondrial, encoded by the PCCB gene, plays a crucial role in amino acid metabolism. Specifically, it is involved in the conversion of ornithine to proline, a non-essential amino acid. As the initial intermediate in this process, OAT catalyzes the transfer of the δ-amino group from ornithine (Orn) to α-ketoglutarate (aKG), yielding glutamate-5-semialdehyde and glutamate (Glu). Remarkably, it also performs the reverse reaction, essential for creating ornithine from the starting substrate proline123. The bovine PCCB gene is located within a QTL region for fat thickness at the 12th rib, making it a potential candidate gene for this trait
