Target Information

Myelin protein P0 is encoded by the bovine gene MPZ. It is the most abundant protein in the myelin of the peripheral nervous system. It is found in compact myelin and spans the myelin membrane via a single transmembrane helix with an N-terminal immunoglobulin (Ig)-like domain on the extracellular side of the membrane. Myelin P0 plays a crucial role in enabling efficient nerve impulse transmission by facilitating saltatory conduction.
