Folate receptor alpha (FRα), also known as FOLR1 or folate binding protein (FBP), is a membrane protein found on the surface of various cells throughout the body. Its primary function is to facilitate the uptake of folate (vitamin B9), a vital nutrient essential for numerous biological processes. Folate receptor alpha is encoded by the FOLR1 gene in cattle. The folate binding protein 1 is a member of alpha folate receptor family, and constituted of 241 amino acids and functions as binding to folate and reduced folic acid derivatives such as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, tetrahydrofolate, 5-formyltetrahydrofolate, etc.
