Target Information
Bovine microfibril-associated protein 5 is encoded by the MFAP5 gene in cattle. This gene encodes a microfibril-associated glycoprotein that is a component of extracellular matrix microfibrils. The encoded protein promotes attachment of cells to microfibrils via alpha-V-beta-3 integrin. Deficiency of this gene in mice results in neutropenia. MFAP5 regulates osteogenesis via Wnt/β-catenin and AMPK signalling. It may be a therapeutic target in patients with osteoporosis.
