Target Information
Bovine LETM1 domain-containing protein 1 is encoded by the LETMD1 gene in cattle. It is a brown adipose tissue (BAT)-enriched and cold-induced protein required for cold-stimulated respiration and BAT thermogenesis. It plays an essential role in mitochondrial structure and function and thermogenesis of brown adipocytes. In brown adipose tissue, it also localises to the nucleus where it interacts with the chromatin remodeler SMARCA4 to regulate the expression of thermogenic genes such as UCP1.
