Target Information
In 1997, the epsilon chain of bovine immunoglobulin E was sequenced and its homology with the epsilon chain of sheep was 87%. IgE binds to high-affinity receptors on immune cells called mast cells and basophils. When the allergen is encountered again, it binds to these IgE antibodies, triggering the release of chemical mediators (such as histamine). Its functions in response to antigen aerosol, during helminth, bacterial, viral and protozoan infections, and in response to some vaccines have been studied.
