Target Information
Bovine Probable 4-Hydroxy-2-Oxoglutarate Aldolase, Mitochondrial is encoded by the HOGA1 gene in cattle. It is a mitochondrial enzyme that plays a gatekeeper role in hydroxyproline metabolism. HOGA1 catalyzes the final step in the metabolic pathway of hydroxyproline. Specifically, it converts 4-hydroxy-2-oxoglutarate into glyoxylate and pyruvate. This enzymatic reaction occurs within the mitochondrial matrix. Loss of function mutations in the HOGA1 gene can lead to primary hyperoxaluria type 3 (PH3).
