Target Information
Beta-adrenergic receptor kinase 1 is an enzyme involved in desensitizing beta-adrenergic receptors, which are cell surface receptors activated by the hormone epinephrine. BARK1 phosphorylates the receptor after activation, leading to its internalization and decreased signaling. It is encoded by the bovine gene GRK2. GRK2 was found to be one of the most highly upregulated genes in lactating mammary tissue with low quality milk compared to tissue with high quality milk.
