Target Information
Bovine Aspartate Aminotransferase, Mitochondrial is encoded by the GOT2 gene in cattle. It catalyzes the irreversible transamination of the L-tryptophan metabolite L-kynurenine to form kynurenic acid (KA). As a member of the malate-aspartate shuttle, it has a key role in the intracellular NAD(H) redox balance. It plays important roles in the import of fatty acid in intestine, muscle, and liver by working in concert with CD36. In dairy cows the transcription of GOT2 in intestine is abundant.
