Specifications
Target Information
Fatty Acid Synthase (FASN) is a multifunctional enzyme that catalyzes the de novo biosynthesis of long-chain saturated fatty acids starting from acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA in the presence of NADPH. Bovine Fatty Acid Synthase is encoded by the FASN gene in cattle. As enzymes involved with fat deposition and fatty acid composition in cattle, FASN genes and their corresponding genotypes may be considered as molecular markers for economic traits in cattle breeding.
