Target Information
Bovine Dihydropyrimidine Dehydrogenase is encoded by the DPD gene in cattle. DPD helps break down thymine and uracil, which are part of the structure of our genes. DPD deficiency can lead to severe, potentially life-threatening toxic reactions to these cancer drugs. Toxicity may cause symptoms such as mouth sores, abdominal pain, bleeding, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and more. It plays a crucial role in metabolizing certain drugs, including 5-fluorouracil (5FU) and capecitabine. It is the initial and rate-limiting enzyme in the catabolic pathway of pyrimidines.
