Target Information

Type III iodothyronine deiodinase (DIO3) is an enzyme that belongs to the deiodinase family and plays a crucial role in thyroid hormone metabolism. DIO3 is primarily found in the brain, placenta, and skin. It catalyzes the inactivation of thyroid hormones by removing an iodine atom from the inner ring of triiodothyronine (T3), converting it to 3,3'-diiodothyronine (T2). Bovine Type III Iodothyronine Deiodinase is encoded by the DIO3 gene in cattle. This gene is preferentially expressed from the paternal allele.
