Target Information
Bovine diacylglycerol kinase alpha is encoded by the DGKA gene in cattle. It is a potential candidate gene involved in lipid metabolism, fertility mechanisms and production disorders in early lactation. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the eukaryotic diacylglycerol kinase family. It acts as a modulator competing with protein kinase C for the second messenger diacylglycerol in intracellular signalling pathways. It also plays an important role in the resynthesis of phosphatidylinositols and the phosphorylation of diacylglycerol to phosphatidic acid.
