Target Information

C1GALT1 encodes β1, 3 galactosyltransferase enzyme which is important in O-galactosylation of glycoproteins. The Gal-beta-1-3GalNAc-R structure serves as a precursor for many extended mucin-type O-glycan structures found on cell surfaces and secreted glycoproteins. Core 1 is synthesized by transferring galactose (Gal) from UDP-Gal to GalNAc-alpha-1-R using C1GALT1. Researchers cloned human C1GALT1 by searching expressed sequence tag (EST) databases. It exhibits widespread expression, with prominence in kidney, heart, placenta, and liver.
