Target Information

Arylsulfatase A (or cerebroside-sulfatase) is an enzyme that breaks down sulfatides, namely cerebroside 3-sulfate into cerebroside and sulfate. A deficiency in Arylsulfatase A is associated with metachromatic leukodystrophy, an autosomal recessive disease. Multiple sulfatase deficiency (MSD) is also associated with the ARSA gene. Bovine Arylsulfatase A is encoded by the ARSA gene in cattle. The presence of ARSA may play a role in driving conceptus elongation in cattle.

Target/Biomarker Bovine ARSA
Target Synonym arylsulfatase A; ASA; cerebroside-sulfatase
Gene ID 505514
UniProt ID Q08DD1
