Target Information
Bovine Apolipoprotein D is encoded by the APOD gene in cattle. Unlike other lipoproteins primarily produced in the liver, Apolipoprotein D is mainly synthesized in the brain and testes. It plays a role in lipid transport, acting as a carrier protein for lipophilic molecules within neurons and glial cells in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. ApoD was identified as a carrier molecule with high affinity for steroids such as progesterone, as well as arachidonic acid and metabolites that enhance smooth muscle cell migration.
