Target Information
Bovine Apurinic/apyrimidinic endodeoxyribonuclease 1is encoded by the APEX1 gene in cattle. It is the main AP-endonuclease of the DNA base excision repair pathway. APEX1 plays a central role in base excision repair (BER) by removing apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) sites-frequent DNA lesions caused by hydrolysis or DNA damage. These AP sites can prevent normal DNA replication and are considered pre-mutagenic lesions. Disruptions in APEX1's functions are associated with various malignancies and neurodegenerative diseases.
