Aldehyde dehydrogenase, mitochondrial (ALDH2) is an enzyme encoded by the bovine gene ALDH2. ALDH2 belongs to the aldehyde dehydrogenase family of enzymes. It plays a crucial role in alcohol metabolism and is specifically involved in the oxidation of acetaldehyde to acetate. Aldehyde dehydrogenases are a superfamily of multi-subunit enzymes that catalyse the oxidation of acetaldehyde to acetate during ethanol metabolism.
