Target Information
Bovine Medium-Chain Specific acyl-CoA Dehydrogenase, Mitochondrial (MCAD) is encoded by the ACADM gene in cattle. It is part of the acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (ACAD) family. It catalyzes the initial step in each cycle of fatty acid β-oxidation within the mitochondria of cells. Specifically, MCAD introduces a trans double-bond between C2 (α) and C3 (β) of the acyl-CoA thioester substrate. Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) serves as a required co-factor for MCAD to function.
