Target Information

Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii (Bvb) was originally identified in a dog suffering from endocarditis in 1993. It is primarily a pathogen affecting canines, including coyotes and dogs, which are considered its main reservoirs. Four genotypes of B. vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii have been identified through the analysis of blood samples from coyotes, dogs, and foxes. Among these, genotype II has been the most commonly isolated and sequenced from both dog and human blood samples.
