Bambuterol is a long-acting beta-agonist drug that can be metabolized in the body to form terbutaline. Although it is a recognized medication for asthma, its use as a growth promoter in livestock is prohibited in many countries. Like other beta-agonists, it can increase muscle mass and decrease fat in animals, but its residues in meat can pose health risks to consumers. These risks include potential cardiovascular and neurological effects, such as heart palpitations, tremors, and headaches, which are similar to the effects of other beta-agonist residues.
