Bacitracin is a polypeptide antibiotic produced by Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis. It has been widely used in animal husbandry, particularly in poultry and swine, as a growth promoter and for the prevention and treatment of diseases like necrotic enteritis. Although it is not a "medically important" antibiotic for humans, its use in animals is regulated to prevent residues in meat and other animal products that could contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria, a significant public health concern
