Target Information

Bacillus thuringiensis (or Bt) is a Gram-positive, soil-dwelling bacterium that is the most widely used biological pesticide globally. It naturally occurs in the gut of caterpillars of various moths and butterflies and can also be found on leaf surfaces, in aquatic environments, animal feces, insect-rich environments, flour mills, and grain storage facilities. Its pesticidal action is due to a well-known protein mechanism that induces toxicity in caterpillars (insect larvae).
