Apramycin (APM) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used in veterinary medicine to treat bacterial infections, particularly in pigs and poultry. The use of apramycin in food-producing animals is regulated to ensure that its residues do not remain in meat or other products at unsafe levels. The primary food safety concerns are the potential for antibiotic residues to enter the human food chain and the contribution of its use to the development of antimicrobial resistance, which is a significant global public health issue. Therefore, strict withdrawal periods are enforced for treated animals.
