Target Information

Amlodipine is a long-acting calcium channel blocker primarily used in human medicine to treat hypertension and angina, and occasionally used off-label in veterinary medicine for small animals. However, it can be illegally introduced into livestock farming or aquaculture as an unauthorized drug to alleviate transport stress, lower metabolic rates, or reduce mortality rates during high-density containment. Residues of amlodipine in animal-derived foods like meat, fish, or milk pose a risk to human health, potentially causing cardiovascular disturbances such as hypotension, peripheral edema, flushing, and tachycardia in sensitive consumers.
