Target Information

Aflatoxin B1 is highly relevant to animal-derived food safety. It is a powerful mycotoxin produced by certain molds, such as Aspergillus flavus, that can contaminate crops like corn and peanuts used for animal feed. When livestock consume this contaminated feed, Aflatoxin B1 is metabolized in their bodies. Its metabolite, Aflatoxin M1, can then be secreted into their milk, and residues can also be found in meat and eggs. This "carry-over" from feed to food products poses a significant health risk to humans, as Aflatoxin B1 is a known carcinogen, particularly for the liver.

Protein Aflatoxin B1
