Actinomyces naeslundii is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium associated with periodontal disease and various tooth cavities. It is among the initial bacteria to inhabit the oral cavity and colonize the tooth surface. In various animal species, Actinomyces naeslundii has been isolated from suppurative infections, most frequently in aborted porcine fetuses.
